John Murry & Cowboy Junkies’ Michael Timmins have announced a new album. It’s the soundtrack for the documentary film, The Graceless Age: The Ballad Of John Murry. Tracks include stripped back versions of songs from A Short History Of Decay, new songs and sections from the documentary score.
“Ever since we finished recording A Short History of Decay back in 2016, I’ve been waiting for John Murry to return to my studio,” says Timmins. “I had been working on some ideas for the film score for John’s doc when he finally reappeared. He had three days to kill in Toronto, so we decided to get together, sit around and play some music. No real plan and no real goal, just play and enjoy each other’s company. This album is the result of that visit.
“It’s a ‘sort-of’ soundtrack album to the film, it contains some score pieces, as well as some of the solo recordings that John and I made when he was here in Toronto, some of which also became a part of the score.”
As well as Murry on vocals and acoustic guitar and Timmins on electric guitar, bass, keyboards and loops, the album also features Peter Timmins on drums.
John Murry will be playing a number of solo acoustic shows in the UK to mark the release of this album.

Born in 1979, John Murry is an American musician, singer-songwriter, composer, and producer. He hails from Tupelo, Mississippi, and currently resides in Drumlish, County Longford, Ireland. Murry gained critical acclaim with his debut solo record, “The Graceless Age,” which was released in 2013 on Evangeline Recording Co. The album was listed by Uncut as one of the 10 best records of 2012 and received recognition from Mojo, The Guardian, and American Songwriter as well.

Murry’s music is characterized by its alluring, emotional, and infectious qualities. His songwriting often delves into themes of drugs and near-death experiences. Murry has collaborated with other notable musicians, including Memphis singer-songwriter Bob Frank, and frequently writes and collaborates with San Francisco-based singer-songwriter Chuck Prophet.

In other news, Iron Man Records has been nominated for, and has been awarded, yet another Award. In general I ignore or delete these things but this one is almost worth sharing. You can’t make it up and expect anyone to believe it.
So, anyway. Enough of that. It made me laugh though. I pressed DELETE.

The Record label seeks to encourage residents and travellers in the arts to gather, record and present their cultural insights and experiences. To write, rehearse, record and perform.
Iron Man Records does NOT seek financial support from Arts Funding Organisations, Government Projects, Academic Institutions, Banks, Investors, Advertisers or any other interested groups. The label seeks to remain independent by any means. Anyone is welcome to Nominate or Award more silly awards to Iron Man Records but I don’t think anyone at this end could care less. What matters is the Music, and the support Artists need to survive. This is what Iron Man Records is interested in. But it’s not easy. Music has Value. Artists have Value. But everything costs. Can you help? Will you become a Patron?
Consider the thoughts of every Musician and their crew heading to the next Gig in the small hours…..we might be going in circles but there’s always hope for something better. We have to work together. We might have missed the turning but we can always go round again. United We Stand. Will you join us?
