Survival in the wasteland is not easy these days. Sometimes I work for money, sometimes I work for free, and sometimes I do things I don’t understand at all. If you want to make anything meaningful happen, you have to work against almost impossible odds. Iron Man Records has had to deploy a number of survival skills in the challenging desert landscape of independent music. Changing habits post-COVID, the cost of living crisis, Brexit, the cost of touring, fuel prices, and the impact of streaming services have significantly affected the environment in which musicians operate.
At a time when most people have access to more music than at any other time, pursuing a career in music has become unsustainable for many. Simply earning enough to cover basic operating expenses feels like a mad dream for most artists. Asking for money is not easy.

Musicians often juggle multiple jobs to pay their bills while seeking the freedom and time to create music. For many, the traditional income streams they relied upon in the past have almost dried up. This has left Musicians navigating a desert landscape, often going from gig to gig, and T-shirt sale to T-shirt sale, in search of new supporters who appreciate their art. The journey is tough, and it's no surprise that many feel overwhelmed and consider giving up altogether.

Iron Man Records is dedicated to helping musicians adapt to, and overcome, harsh realities. Daily work can include assisting them in facing physical challenges and navigating encounters with peer group members, family, friends, and commercial groups that can be hostile, threatening, critical or problematic. Musicians have had to become incredibly resistant to constant criticism and humiliation, and have to develop a positive and resourceful state of mind to handle risky and complex situations. Scavenging for supplies, finding repairs and affordable fuel, and identifying places to stay at a time when the price of a budget hotel is no longer within the budget, are now standard issue touring skills. Musicians have to utilize whatever resources they can find to sustain themselves, adapt to harsh conditions, and overcome the obstacles in their pursuit of music.
Iron Man Records works hard to help musicians at all levels by guiding them through difficult decisions, assessing threats, and helping them to recognize scams and time wasters. Iron Man Records aims to help musicians maximize any opportunity that may appear.
