Iron Man Records has had to develop a number of survival skills in the wasteland that is the world of independent music. Changing habits post Covid, the cost of living crisis, Brexit, touring costs, the price of fuel, streaming services, and big online platforms have drained the life blood from the environment that musicians operate in.
Welcome to the Paid Subscribers level of the Iron Man Records Newsletter. Your support means a lot. At a time when most people are overwhelmed with music to choose from, playing music has become an unsustainable career choice for many. Earning enough to just cover basic costs has become almost a dream.
Musicians need a number of different jobs to generate the income to pay the bills and generate the freedom to play music. Some are lucky to sell a few tickets and perhaps a few T-shirts as they go. Nearly all the income that musicians once relied upon has dried up leaving them to navigate a desolate and dangerous desert environment. Many musicians are living from gig to gig, T-shirt sale to T-shirt sale, desperate to find new supporters who will show interest in their life and work. It’s not easy, and many find it easier to give up.
Iron Man Records works hard to help Musicians adapt to harsh working conditions and endure physical challenges and encounters with hostile situations and commercial groups. Musicians have had to become resourceful scavenging for supplies and materials, finding cheap fuel wherever they can, utilising whatever they can find to sustain themselves and overcome obstacles to playing music.
Iron Man Records works hard to help musicians make decisions, adapt to difficult situations, assess threats, anticipate scams and time wasters, and react accordingly to maximise the opportunity, whatever it might be.
In what many describe as an almost post-apocalyptic world, Musicians have to develop survival skills and resillience if they want to remain operational. Iron Man Records seeks to help and support musicians and give their life and work a value.
